Stel je voor, je nadert je pensioen leeftijd en je hebt altijd tegen jezelf gezegd dat je nog één keer een nieuwe auto wilt kopen. Heel je leven heb je hard gewerkt en wil jezelf belonen, wat doe je? Je koopt een nieuwe 5-serie.

In 1987 werd de E34 geïntroduceerd, de opvolger van de E28. Net als de E32, uit hetzelfde jaar, volgende deze twee modellen de styling op van de uiterst succesvolle e30-serie. Rechtopstaande neus met twee losse koplampen, lange vlakke motorkap en de schuine voorruit.

In 1988 kocht Andreas Wurzer op 53 jarige leeftijd deze heerlijke 520i. Gespecificeerd met de jaren 80 in gedachten, Luxor Beige met Havanna Brown Stoff. Handgeschakeld aan de heerlijk soepele M20 6-cilinder.

Maar dan ga je er niet mee rijden, en alleen met mooi weer? Het lijkt een vreemde gewaarwording, maar toch is het zo gegaan. Slechts 20.168 kilometer staat er na 38 jaar gebruik. Buiten een bijgetipt krasje op de bijrijdersdeur, staat ze er in A1 conditie bij. Vooral de onderzijde van de auto is eigenlijk als nieuw.

Uiteraard volledig roestvrij maar het meest bijzondere is hoe schoon het daar is en hoe alle fabrieksorginele gepassiveerde bouten en moertjes nog hun kleur hebben weten te behouden. Ook de fabrieks-was zit er op heel veel plekken nog op. Een lust voor het oog. Het interieur is dan ook perfect. Geen kleurverschil in het stof (door UV-straling), geen scheuren of bollen in het dashboard en de stoelen zitten ferm doch comfortabel. Mocht deze E34 buiten hebben gestaan dan was dit allemaal toch iets sneller gaan verouderen dan nu. Het lakwerk verkeert voor 95% in zijn originele staat, alleen het rechtervoorpaneel is eenmaal gespoten.

Veel mensen zullen denken: “Maar zo’n kilometerstand, dat kan toch niet?”. Wij zeggen: Er is één detail wat je niet kunt faken bij dit soort auto’s en dat zijn de banden. De Fünfer staat nog op zijn originele Michelin Zomerbanden uit 1988! Zonder droogtescheurtjes, zonder profielverlies en nog in top staat, je zou er bijna op gaan rijden.

Een collectors-item die je bijna nooit tegenkomt in deze staat. Met trots presenteren wij dan ook dit exemplaar. Tot snel.

In 1987, the E34 was introduced, the successor to the E28. Like the E32, from the same year, these two models followed the styling of the extremely successful E30 series. An upright nose with two separate headlights, a long, flat hood, and a slanted windshield.
In 1988, Andreas Wurzer, at the age of 53, bought this wonderful 520i. It was specced with the 1980s in mind: Luxor Beige with Havana Brown fabric. It had a manual transmission and the wonderfully smooth M20 six-cylinder engine.
But you wouldn't drive it, and only in good weather? It seems a strange sensation, but that's how it happened. Only 20,168 kilometers on the odometer after 38 years of use. Aside from a minor scratch on the passenger door, it's in A1 condition. The underside of the car, in particular, is practically as good as new.
Completely rust-free, of course, but what's most remarkable is how clean it is and how all the factory-passivated nuts and bolts have retained their color. The factory wax is also still present in many places. A feast for the eyes. The interior is also perfect. No discoloration in the fabric (due to UV radiation), no cracks or bulges in the dashboard, and the seats are firm yet comfortable. If this E34 had been parked outside, all of this would have aged a bit faster than it has. The paintwork is 95% original; only the right front panel has been sprayed once.
Many people will think: "But that kind of mileage, how can that be?" We say: There's one detail you can't fake with these kinds of cars, and that's the tires. The Fünfer still has its original 1988 Michelin summer tires! No dry cracks, no tread loss, and still in top condition—you could almost drive it.
