In 1982 was het erg verrassend dat Mercedes een, voor hun begrippen, kleine auto op de markt bracht. Hiermee wilden zij een breder publiek aanspreken die ‘minder’ te besteden hadden. Destijds kostte een 1.8 190E nog steeds vijftigduizend gulden. De auto kreeg in 1983 concurrentie van de bekende BMW E30. Waar de auto München een stuk sportiever van aard was, is de Mercedes in hart en nieren nog echt een ‘Autobahn Cruiser’.

Dan over naar dit origineel Nederlandse exemplaar. Gespecificeerd in Ice Blue Metallic in combinatie met een donkerblauw stof interieur is dit een plaatje om te zien. Het lakwerk heeft de tand des tijds goed doorstaan. Voor een auto van Nederlandse bodem is geen roest uiterst zeldzaam. De gehele onderzijde is keihard, de wielkastranden puntgaaf en de krikpunten nog goed. Het interieur is bijna smetteloos te noemen. Alles werkt naar behoren. Er is helaas een kleine beetje instapschade, maar dat is wel te verwachten na 30 jaar dienst.

Buiten het cosmetische deel, is ook het technische component heel erg belangrijk. Deze 190E is voorzien van een 2.3 liter 4 cilinder benzine motor, welke gecombineerd is met een fijne handgeschakelde 5 bak. De afgelopen 3 jaar is de auto gebruikt voor woon-werk verkeer en dit is ook te merken, maar dan de positieve zin van het woord. De motor voelt heel erg goed en vertrouwd aan. De afgelopen jaren zijn er meerdere facturen beschikbaar ter inzage, waaruit duidelijk is dat de auto gekoesterd is.

At the time, a 1.8 190E still cost fifty thousand guilders. The car faced competition from the well-known BMW E30 in 1983. Then on to this original Dutch example. Specified in Ice Blue Metallic in combination with a dark blue cloth interior, it is a sight to see. The paintwork has stood the test of time well. No rust is extremely rare for a car of Dutch origin. The entire underside is rock hard, the wheel arch edges are immaculate and the jacking points are still good. The interior is almost immaculate. Everything works as it should. There is unfortunately a little bit of damage on one of the side bollsters, but that is to be expected after 30 years of service.

Besides the cosmetic part, the technical component is also very important. This 190E is equipped with a 2.3 liter 4-cylinder petrol engine, which is combined with a fine 5-speed manual transmission. The car has been used for commuting for the past 3 years and this is also noticeable, but in the positive sense of the word. The bike feels very good and familiar. In recent years, several invoices are available for inspection, from which it is clear that the car has been cherished.
