Oorspronkelijk geleverd in Zweden en sinds 1996 in Nederland. Voorheen stond dit Parelwitte kevertje in de collectie van Wim Zegwaard. Samen met verschillende automobielen is deze Kever in 2012 geveild door RM Sotheby's. Ze is in ongerestaureerde staat, volledige origineel op het rechter voorspatbord na, alleen deze is ooit opnieuw gespoten. De bodem lijkt voor zover wij kunnen zien ongelast en uiteraard ook roestvrij.

Interieur presenteert zicht in zeer goede staat, geen beschadigingen aan de stoelen, tapijt of het dashboard.Volgens de beschrijving van RM Sotheby's zou het gaan om een exemplaar met destijds origineel 68.125 km op de klok. Inmiddels is dit gestegen naar 74.605 km. Er zijn sinds de veiling een aantal onderhoudsfacturen aanwezig, maar geen documentatie van daarvoor. Er is dus door ons met geen zekerheid te zeggen dat de kilometerteller van de Kever niet een keer rond is geweest. Maar de staat doet vermoeden dat RM Sotheby's zo maar eens gelijk zou kunnen hebben!

Technisch is het een leuk staaltje techniek. De luchtgekoelde boxer 4 cilinder spint zoals je mag verwachten, de 4-handbak schakelt eigenlijk erg soepel. Wij hadden verwacht dat een 'budget-auto' uit de jaren 60 een stuk slechter zou rijden dan dat ze doet. Je went erg snel aan de plaatsing van alles en aan het stuurgedrag, lekker zweverig. Telkens wanneer je instapt en de koppeling induwt, wordt je er aan herinnerd dat de drie pedalen uit de vloer komen in plaats van uit het dashboard.

Originally delivered in Sweden and in the Netherlands since 1996. This pearl-white Beetle was previously part of Wim Zegwaard's collection. Along with various automobiles, this Beetle was auctioned by RM Sotheby's in 2012. It is in unrestored condition, completely original except for the right front fender, which was repainted at some point. As far as we can see, the underbody appears un-welded and, naturally, rust-free.

The interior presents itself in very good condition, with no damage to the seats, carpet, or dashboard.

According to the description by RM Sotheby's, this was an example with an original 68,125 km on the odometer at the time. This has since risen to 74,605 km. A number of maintenance invoices are available since the auction, but there is no documentation from before that. Therefore, we cannot say with certainty that the Beetle's odometer has never gone around. However, the condition suggests that RM Sotheby's might very well be right!

Technically, it is a fine piece of engineering. The air-cooled boxer 4-cylinder purrs as you would expect, and the 4-speed manual transmission actually shifts very smoothly. We had expected a 'budget car' from the 60s to drive much worse than it does. You get used very quickly to the placement of everything and the steering behavior; it feels pleasantly floaty. Every time you get in and press the clutch, you are reminded that the three pedals emerge from the floor rather than from the dashboard. It was part of the Wim Zegwaard collection, which included a Bugatti Veyron, a Maybach 62S Landaulet, and a G650 Landaulet, among others.
